Giovanni Conti

Associate Professor in Industriai Design, Giovanni Maria Conti is currently the Coordinator of Knitwear design Lab (Knitlab) of the Fashion Design Degree at Politecnico di Milano. His fields of interest are focused on contemporary design with a specialization on Knitwear and Fashion Design.
He is member of LeNS - lnternational Learning Network on Sustainablity. Visiting Researcher at Sristhi School of Art, Design and Technology of Bangalore (India), Lecturer at the Istituto Politecnico De Castelo Branco (Portugal) and Consultant for the Project SENAI Design Futures, SENAI / CETIQT Rio de Janeiro.
His didactical approach to Knitwear Design is radically different from the traditional method. Based neither on the history of art philology nor on the arts and crafts point of view but on considering knitwear as a system where each component - project, production, distribution, communication - should be considered as part of the whole system and conse9uently enter in the design process. This approach has been recognized as an academic innovation and as a very good job opportunity for his students that are conse9uently welcome to work for the knitwear industry. Thanks to this vision the most relevant ltalian and lnternational knitwear brands are now partners of Politecnico Knitwear Design Course: Missoni, Loro Piana, Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia, Filmar.
